Detailed description
Detailed description
The Raymarine type 2 short 12V linear mechanical actuator is an autopilot actuator designed for sailboats with significant displacement. Unlike type 1 models suited for lighter units, this type 2 actuator delivers greater thrust to ensure a firm and precise rudder response in rough sea conditions. With a 300 mm stroke, this short version fits perfectly in confined spaces under the deck, offering a compact alternative to the long-stroke models in the same range.
Performance and mechanical integration
This 12V mechanical actuator connects directly to the rudder quadrant or tiller arm. Installation requires careful attention to alignment: the pushrod must be precisely aligned with the tiller arm's rotation plane, with a strict tolerance of plus or minus 5 degrees to avoid mechanical stress. The system comes with a complete rudder shaft assembly, including the shaft, R-pin, washers, and a 1/2-inch UNC Nylock nut. It is designed to operate in perfect synergy with Raymarine course computers from the ACU generation or older SPX models.
Electrical recommendations and maintenance
To ensure optimal 12V power supply and avoid voltage drops (below 10V) that could reset the course computer, wiring must be rigorously sized. Raymarine recommends a 6 mm² cross-section for lengths up to 5 meters, 10 mm² up to 7 meters, and 16 mm² up to 16 meters. To maintain peak performance and reliability, the manufacturer recommends servicing by an authorized center every 2 years or every 1000 hours of use.
