Detailed description
Detailed description
The Victron Energy BatteryProtect 12/24V 65A is a battery protection device designed to disconnect non-essential loads before a full discharge, preventing battery damage or loss of power to start the engine. This model is a compact solution for systems requiring a maximum continuous current of 65A, with a peak current of 250A for 30 seconds. It is part of the BatteryProtect range, which also includes the BP-100 (100A continuous, 600A peak) and BP-220 (220A continuous, 600A peak) models, offering flexibility for various marine and vehicle installation configurations.
Advanced features and adaptability
The BatteryProtect 12/24V 65A automatically detects system voltage (12V or 24V) and offers easy programming via a 7-segment LED display, allowing configuration of disconnection and reconnection thresholds. A specific function is dedicated to Li-ion batteries, enabling direct control by an external BMS such as the VE.Bus BMS, where the BatteryProtect acts as a charge switch. This versatility sets it apart from more basic solutions that do not offer Li-ion mode or automatic voltage detection. Its current consumption is ultra-low (1.5 mA when running, 0.6 mA when off or during low-voltage cutoff), a key advantage for standalone systems. The device includes overvoltage protection, disconnecting the load if DC voltage exceeds 16V (for a 12V system) or 32V (for a 24V system).
Safety and system integration
Safety is enhanced by the use of MOSFET switches without relays, ensuring spark-free operation (ignition proof). The alarm output is timed for 12 seconds before activation, preventing false triggers during engine start-up. This open-collector output, short-circuit protected, can activate an alarm buzzer, LED, or relay (max. 50 mA). Load disconnection is also timed (90 seconds after the alarm), and reconnection occurs 30 seconds after the battery voltage exceeds the reconnection threshold. The electronics are rated IP67 (potted), providing immersion protection, while the connections are IP00. This model comes with a pre-assembled DC negative connector and cable, simplifying installation. It is not designed to handle reverse currents from charging sources.
