Designed for precise and comprehensive monitoring of battery banks, the BMV-712 BLACK Smart battery monitor from Victron Energy integrates Bluetooth connectivity for intuitive management. It provides essential data such as voltage, current, power, consumed ampere-hours, and state of charge (SoC). The device also calculates the remaining time until full discharge under current load, offering deep insight into battery autonomy and health. Its low current consumption, under 1 mA (0.7 Ah/month at 12 V, 0.6 Ah/month at 24 V), is particularly beneficial for Li-ion batteries, minimizing the risk of damage during prolonged discharge.
Advanced features and connectivity of the BMV-712 Smart
The BMV-712 Smart stands out with its VE.Direct communication port, enabling easy integration with other Victron Energy equipment such as Color Control GX or Venus GX, and access to the VRM portal for remote monitoring. Its built-in Bluetooth function makes the device compatible with the VictronConnect app, allowing customization of settings, real-time data visualization, access to 46 days of history (voltage, current, SoC, auxiliary input), and firmware updates via smartphone or tablet. This "Smart" approach simplifies installation and enhances overall system performance.
Versatile installation and monitoring
Installation of the BMV-712 Smart is streamlined with a quick-connect printed circuit board on the included current shunt. The kit includes a 10-meter RJ12 cable and a 2-meter battery cable with fuse, requiring no additional components. Mounting options are provided, with a separate faceplate for square or round appearance, a mounting ring for rear installation, and screws for front installation. Beyond primary monitoring, the BMV-712 Smart features an auxiliary input to measure the voltage of a second battery, temperature, or mid-point voltage of a series bank. The latter is critical for identifying a failing cell or battery before it damages the entire bank. The device also includes a programmable latching relay for managing non-critical loads or starting a generator, and configurable visual and audible alarms for critical parameters. Its compatibility with shunts up to 10,000 A and a wide input voltage range of 6.5 to 70 VDC makes it adaptable to various configurations.
