Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for autonomous bilge management on board, the Whale Bilge IC 24 V automatic bilge pump system (part number SI8484) is an integrated solution combining four components into a single pre-wired assembly. It integrates a high-flow Gulper IC pump and an intelligent-control Strainer IC strainer, providing efficient bilge water monitoring and discharge. This system is suitable as a primary bilge pump for boats up to 12 meters (39.4 feet) according to ISO15083, or as a secondary pump on any recreational vessel.
Intelligent Control Technology
At the core of the Bilge IC system is intelligent control technology that enables the Strainer IC strainer to communicate directly with the Gulper IC pump. This interaction ensures automatic pump activation and shutdown upon water detection in the bilge. The Gulper IC pump is self-priming and can run dry without damage, ensuring operational reliability. Features such as soft-start reduce pump wear, while activation/deactivation delays prevent short cycling, and a timed delay optimizes drainage. The system also includes anti-clogging valves, eliminating the need for external strainers.
Installation and Performance
The Whale Bilge IC 24 V system is designed for remote installation, allowing the Gulper IC pump to be positioned up to 4 meters (13 feet) from the bilge area for easier inspection and protection from damp environments. Pre-wired IP68-rated waterproof electrical connections simplify installation and prevent electrolysis and capillary action issues. Nominal power supply is 24 V DC, with an operating voltage range of 21.6 V DC to 27.2 V DC. Standby current draw is 0.01 A, and maximum operating current is 3.25 A to 4 A. A 5 A automotive fuse is recommended. The power cable is 4 meters (12 feet) long and requires a minimum wire gauge of 1.5 mm² (16 AWG).
The system provides a maximum suction lift of 3 meters (10 feet) and a maximum discharge head of 3 meters (10 feet), with a combined maximum of 4 meters (13.5 feet). The Gulper IC pump accepts 19 mm (¾") or 25 mm (1") corrugated hose connections, while the Strainer IC strainer uses a 19 mm (¾") port with adjustable orientation (horizontal, vertical, lateral). System weight is 2.6 kg (5.7 lbs). Flow rates vary by installation conditions: for example, with 0 m suction lift, 1 m discharge head, and a 19 mm hose, the 24 V model delivers 17.5 liters/minute (1038 liters/hour). Materials include a glass-reinforced nylon pump head, Santoprene® valves and diaphragm, aluminum pump body, Delrin® impeller, and stainless steel fasteners.
