Designed for the integration of marine electronic systems, the Actisense AS0120 interface provides bidirectional conversion between NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 standards. This device enables older equipment operating on NMEA 0183 to communicate with modern NMEA 2000 networks, and vice versa. It can also serve as a PC interface for the NMEA 2000 network, offering versatility for onboard data management and diagnostics.
Performance and connectivity
The Actisense AS0120 interface stands out for its ability to handle high data transfer rates up to 230,400 baud, ensuring smooth and fast communication of information. The bidirectional conversion supports a wide range of NMEA 0183 sentences and NMEA 2000 PGNs, including the transmission of fast heading data (Fast Heading) at 10 Hz and AIS messages. For power supply, ISO variants such as the AS0120 are directly powered by the NMEA 2000 bus, simplifying installation by eliminating the need for a dedicated external power source. The device complies with NMEA 2000 certification and meets IEC 61162-1 & 61162-2 requirements.
Robustness and system integration
The AS0120 design features opto-coupled isolation for the NMEA 0183 input and an ISO-Drive™ output for NMEA 0183, complemented by galvanic isolation on the NMEA 2000 bus connection (CAN bus). This architecture protects connected equipment from ground loops and voltage surges. The housing meets IP67 waterproofing standards, making it resistant to water and suitable for marine environments. It operates within a temperature range of -25°C to +70°C. Advanced configuration, including the definition of transmit (Tx) and receive (Rx) lists and data rates, is performed via the Actisense Toolkit or NMEA Reader software. Diagnostic LEDs facilitate network status monitoring and data reception checks. The AS0120, identified as a version of Actisense’s NGW-1 or NGX-1 series, is compatible with all NMEA 0183 versions without specific configuration and supports RS422, RS232, RS485 listeners on the output and RS422, RS232 transmitters on the input. Free software updates are available to keep the device current.
