The ePropulsion Pod Drive 6.0 Evo 6 kW electric pod motor (reference P6-0000-E0) is an in-hull propulsion solution designed for sailboats and small craft. It delivers 6 kW of power, equivalent to a 9.9 hp thermal outboard, with the benefit of silent, emissions-free operation.

Performance and technical specifications

This Pod Drive 6.0 Evo integrates a direct-drive brushless DC motor, guaranteeing maximum efficiency of 57%. It operates on a nominal voltage of 48 V, with an input voltage range of 39 V to 60 V. The motor produces 1200 N of static thrust and reaches a nominal rotation speed of 1500 rpm. Operation is characterized by a noise level of approximately 55 dB. Weighing 31 kg, it is equipped with a three-blade 12.6″ × 8.7″ aluminum propeller.

Design and installation

Designed for in-hull installation, the Pod Drive 6.0 Evo maximizes available onboard space. Its dimensions are 495 mm in length, 318.5 mm in width, and 670 mm in height. The natural cooling system ensures efficient thermal management. Its corrosion-resistant design makes it suitable for use in fresh and salt water.

Advanced features and control

The motor integrates hydrogeneration technology, allowing batteries to be recharged while under sail by converting the kinetic energy of the water flow into electricity. The direct-drive propulsion system minimizes vibrations and reduces maintenance needs, as it contains no gears, belts, or oil. The ePropulsion Pod Drive 6.0 Evo is compatible with various Evo control systems (sold separately), such as the Evo Top Mount Control, Evo Side Mount Control, and Evo Dual Control. These systems provide a digital display for real-time monitoring of power, remaining range, battery level, and voltage. It is compatible with ePropulsion LiFePO4 batteries E163, as well as third-party 48 V batteries, although the hydrogeneration function may not be supported with the latter. A magnetic circuit breaker is included for safety.

Maintenance and safety

Thanks to its gearless, beltless, and oil-free design, the pod motor requires minimal maintenance. It incorporates a protection mechanism that reduces speed or stops the motor in the event of contact with an underwater obstacle. The product is backed by a 2-year warranty for non-commercial use.
