Detailed description
The Humminbird XPLORE10-PACK-MLI2 pack, including a XPLORE 10 control head and a MEGA Live 2 transducer, is designed to provide advanced underwater detection and integrated navigation capabilities. This set delivers tools for underwater exploration and on-water navigation assistance.
Humminbird XPLORE 10 control head
The XPLORE 10 control head is an interface for viewing fishfinder and navigation data. It can be installed on a gimbal mount or overhead. For overhead mounting on thin panels, additional hardware (not included) may be required for secure installation.
The control head requires a 12 VDC power source and a 5A slow-blow fuse or equivalent MDL fuse. A 2-meter (6 ft) power cable is included. It can be shortened or extended: extensions up to 6 feet (1.8 m) require 12 AWG wire, while extensions from 12 to 24 feet (3.6 to 7.3 m) require 10 AWG wire. The connection can be made to the boat’s fuse panel or directly to the battery. For multi-control head installations, a separate power source is recommended to minimize interference.
To route cables (fishfinder, power, Ethernet, accessories), a 31.75 mm (1 1/4") hole must be drilled 50 to 100 mm (2" to 4") behind the chosen mounting location. The control head features an optional NMEA 2000® port and supports Ethernet connections for additional accessories. Connectors are designed to prevent incorrect installation, and threaded nuts secure the connections. Unused ports must be capped to prevent potential damage.
On first power-up, a setup guide allows you to set the language, measurement units, time, and date. The system displays GPS status (Enhanced Fix or 3D Fix) and latitude/longitude position. Connected accessories are listed in the information system. User manuals and troubleshooting guides are available online for further details.
Humminbird MEGA Live 2 transducer
The MEGA Live 2 transducer is designed for real-time underwater imaging. It is compatible with all fishfinders in the XPLORE™ and APEX™ series, as well as G3 models in the SOLIX® series. This transducer can be mounted on all Minn Kota Ultrex and Minn Kota Fortrex trolling motors. For Minn Kota Ultrex QUEST motors, rubber pads are not required when installing the shaft mount.
The MEGA Live 2 is powered separately from the fishfinder and must be connected to a switch for on/off control. It requires a 2-amp fuse. The necessary connection cables are included: a 3-meter (10 ft) MEGA Live power cable and a 6-meter (20 ft) Ethernet cable for quick disconnection. It can be connected directly to the fishfinder or to a Humminbird Ethernet switch (sold separately) for networking with multiple control heads.
To use the MEGA Live 2 navigation features, a GPS heading sensor (compass) must be installed. Recommended accessories include a Humminbird GPS heading sensor washer, an NMEA 2000 GPS heading sensor, or a Minn Kota heading sensor connected to an advanced GPS trolling motor.
Installation and general considerations
Installing the MEGA Live 2 transducer on a Minn Kota trolling motor must be done with the motor in the fully retracted position. The mount can be installed on the left or right side of the motor, ensuring nothing obstructs the transducer’s beam path. The landscape mode mount is secured to the shaft mount with a screw and locking washer, which must be fully tightened to prevent the transducer from detaching.
Cables must be routed through an existing boat system, avoiding sharp edges, obstacles, and potential interference sources (such as VHF antenna or tachometer cables). Sufficient cable length must be left to allow the trolling motor to move when deployed and retracted. It is recommended to disconnect the motor from all power sources before starting installation and to apply dielectric grease to connectors in splash-prone areas to prevent corrosion.
To ensure full functionality, it is important to install the latest software updates on the fishfinder and MEGA Live 2 transducer via an SD card.
Warning: This device must not be used as a navigation aid to prevent collisions, grounding, boat damage, or personal injury. While moving, water depth can change too rapidly to allow for a reaction. It is imperative to operate the boat at very low speed if shallow areas or submerged objects are suspected.
