Detailed description
Detailed description
The Humminbird XPLORE 10-MEGA SI+ touchscreen chartplotter is designed as a central control head for navigation and underwater sonar. This unit is part of Humminbird’s XPLORE™ series and features an intuitive user interface for efficient management of marine data.
Installation and mounting
The XPLORE 10 chartplotter can be installed using a gimbal mount or an overhead mount. For secure installation, choose a stable surface protected from excessive shocks and vibrations while ensuring optimal visibility and sufficient cable access. A 31.75 mm (1 1/4") cable hole must be drilled 50 to 100 mm (2" to 4") behind the chosen mounting location. Traditional installation uses four #10 x 1" wood screws with flat washers and marine-grade silicone sealant to waterproof the holes. Thin or ceiling panels may require additional hardware (not included) for robust mounting.
Power supply
The XPLORE 10 chartplotter requires a 12 VDC power supply. The included power cable is 2 m (6 ft) long. For cable extensions, use 12 AWG multistrand copper wire for lengths of 1 to 12 ft, and 10 AWG for lengths of 12 to 24 ft. A 5A slow-blow fuse or equivalent MDL fuse is mandatory. Connect to the boat’s fuse panel or directly to the battery. For reduced interference with other marine electronics, use a dedicated power source, especially for trolling motors. Ensure the unit is connected to a 12 VDC supply even if the boat’s electrical system is 24 VDC or 36 VDC.
Connectivity and wiring
The chartplotter includes an optional NMEA 2000® port and supports Ethernet and accessory connections. When routing cables (sonar, power, Ethernet, accessories), keep them away from VHF radio antenna cables or tachometer cables to minimize interference. Connectors feature keyed designs to prevent installation errors. Avoid routing cables in areas where connectors may be submerged and apply dielectric grease to splash-exposed areas to prevent corrosion. Excess cable should be coiled and secured with nylon cable ties for a clean installation and reduced electronic interference.
System configuration and verification
On first startup, the setup guide will prompt you to configure language, units of measure, time, and date. After initial setup, these settings are accessible from the home screen. GPS status (Enhanced Fix or 3D Fix) and latitude/longitude position can be verified. Connected accessory detection can be confirmed via System > System Info. A sonar test is required after probe installation to complete configuration. The full XPLORE user manual is available for download on the Humminbird website for detailed operational information.
