A fast cruiser inspired by IMOCA designs

The JP54 — nicknamed "The Kid" — is an 18,235 m (54-foot) high-performance fast cruiser designed by Jean-Pierre Dick, in collaboration with naval architect Guillaume Verdier (designer of several dominant IMOCA yachts in the Vendée Globe). Launched in Auckland (New Zealand) in August 2010.

The design philosophy is revolutionary: combining the offshore racing performance of an IMOCA 60 — speeds of 20–25 knots under surfing conditions — with the comfort and livability of a luxury cruising sailboat, allowing family or friends to sail while enjoying distant stops.

Technical specifications

  • Construction: full carbon (hull, deck, mast, boom)
  • Displacement: 10.3 tonnes ultra-light, bulb 3.4 t
  • Keel: canting keel, up to 50° angle
  • Sail area: 216 m² upwind, 434 m² downwind
