Electric fishing motors: precise positioning and silent approach

An electric fishing motor allows you to move the boat at low speed, hold a position without anchoring, and approach an area discreetly. On modern models, integrated GPS, virtual anchor, remote control, and integration with navigation displays turn the motor into a genuine fishing tool.

This collection includes Garmin and Lowrance electric motors for sport fishing, scouting, station-keeping on structures, vertical fishing, and precise boat control. The choice depends on thrust, battery bank voltage, shaft length, mounting type, fishfinder compatibility, and the existing electronic network.

Garmin Force Pro and Force Kraken

The Garmin Force Pro 50" with integrated GT56UHD transducer combines forward propulsion, brushless motor, GPS positioning, and all-in-one sonar. The Garmin Force Pro 57" is designed for boats with more freeboard or installations requiring a longer shaft.

The Force Kraken range covers more varied configurations: Force Kraken 48", Force Kraken 63" and Force Kraken 75". These models suit fishing boats requiring strong course-keeping, Garmin integration, and shaft length matching the freeboard.

Lowrance Ghost

The Lowrance Ghost motors focus on silent brushless operation and seamless integration with Lowrance electronics. The Ghost 47" suits lower boats, the Ghost 52" covers intermediate setups, and the Ghost 60" with TMR-1 remote control addresses installations needing more shaft length.

To complete a Lowrance installation, the Active Imaging 3-in-1 transducer for electric motor cone integrates sonar imaging into the motor setup according to screen and transducer compatibility.

Sizing the motor correctly

  • Thrust: choose sufficient reserve based on boat weight, wind, current, and freshwater or saltwater use.
  • Voltage: plan a 24 V or 36 V battery bank consistent with motor power and expected range.
  • Shaft length: match shaft length to freeboard so the propeller remains submerged in chop.
  • Bow mount: check deck space, mounting plate, clearance, and access to controls.
  • Electronics: verify compatibility with displays, transducers, charts, remote controls, and existing networks.

GPS, virtual anchor, and transducer integration

The virtual anchor keeps the boat in position without dropping anchor. Route tracking, automatic heading, and control from a compatible display are useful for fishing a drop-off, following a contour, or returning to a waypoint. Integrated transducers simplify installation but require checking the expected imaging type: CHIRP, ClearVü, SideVü, Active Imaging, or other technology depending on the brand.

Before ordering, also check motor weight, cable routing, electrical protection, circuit breaker, cable gauge, charger, battery ventilation, and maintenance accessibility. A high-performance electric motor depends as much on the battery bank and installation as on the motor itself.
