Detailed description
Detailed description
The B&G H5000/H3000 Standalone Speed Sensor is a replacement part designed for the precise measurement of surface speed and water temperature. Utilizing paddlewheel technology, this sensor provides the raw data essential for B&G instrument systems to calculate performance variables, including true wind. It is specifically developed to integrate with H5000 and H3000 navigation systems, while also ensuring compatibility with older H2000 and WTP3 systems.
Main technical characteristics
This speed sensor is a paddlewheel model with four blades for responsive measurement. It also integrates a sea temperature sensor to provide additional environmental data. The sensor comes with a 9-meter cable. For calibration, the default value used by B&G systems is 3.80 Hertz/Knot, a value that can be fine-tuned via the system interface for optimal accuracy depending on the hull and installation.
System integration and compatibility
As a component of B&G navigation systems, the H5000/H3000 Speed Sensor transmits its information directly to the H5000 central processing unit (CPU) or a compatible processor. Unlike displays that simply provide information, this sensor is the primary source of speed over ground data, a critical variable for the advanced calculation algorithms of the Hercules and Performance systems. Its compatibility extends from the WTP3 racing systems to the H2000, H3000, and H5000 cruising and racing ranges.
Design for maintenance
The H5000/H3000 Speed Sensor alone is designed to be inserted into a B&G through-hull fitting (sold separately). This fitting is equipped with a self-sealing valve that allows the insert to be removed from the impeller for blade cleaning or maintenance without having to haul the boat out of the water. This feature prevents water ingress and simplifies routine maintenance, ensuring reliable speed measurements over the long term. Through-hull fittings are available in plastic or bronze versions to suit all hull types.
