Detailed description
Detailed description
The B&G WS730S Vertical Ocean Spec 1.4m Wind Sensor is a high-performance instrument designed for the most demanding ocean sailing conditions. Positioned within the WS700 series, this model stands out with its 1.4m carbon fiber pole and reinforced "Ocean Spec" construction. Developed based on over 200,000 hours of wind tunnel testing, it provides extremely accurate and stable wind data, essential for racing and offshore cruising.
Data performance and accuracy
The 1.4-meter high-modulus carbon fiber pole raises the sensor above sail turbulence, in clear air, for unaltered measurements. The wind vane's one-piece design ensures excellent aerodynamic stability, validated in competitions such as The Ocean Race. The WS730S offers a wind speed measurement range of 0.5 to 90 knots, with an accuracy of +/- 0.2 knots (from 2 to 80 knots) and a resolution of 0.1 knot. Wind angle accuracy is +/- 0.5°.
"Ocean Spec" design and connectivity
The "Ocean Spec" construction features reinforced carbon lamination for increased durability in harsh marine environments. The sensor weighs 0.5 kg and is IPX6 waterproof. It operates on a 12 V DC power supply (9 to 16 V DC range) with a power consumption of less than 0.2 W (15 mA at 12 V). The WS730S transmits data via an NMEA 0183 output (10 Hz MWV and R sentences), allowing direct connection to B&G H5000 and WTP3 systems. An optional interface is available for integration into an NMEA 2000 network.
Positioning within the WS700 range
The WS730S is positioned as a high-rise model in the WS700 series, offering a 1.4m boom compared to 0.8m for the WS710 and 1.1m for the WS720. The "S" designation indicates the "Ocean Spec" version, which benefits from a more robust construction than the standard models, making it ideal for offshore racing and crossings. Its mounting compatibility with older B&G VHMUs simplifies system upgrades.
