Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for demanding marine electrical systems, the BLUE SEA e-Series Dual Circuit Plus™ battery switch (model 5511e) provides robust and secure management of two battery banks. It is ideal for applications requiring high power, consistent reliability, and minimal heat generation. This model is specifically sized for inboard gasoline and diesel engines, distinguishing it from the m-Series (300A continuous for small engines) and the HD-Series (500-600A for large diesels).
Electrical Capabilities and Robust Design
The 5511e delivers 350A continuous per circuit, with 525A intermittent per circuit for 5 minutes and 700A cranking current per circuit for 30 seconds. It supports a maximum voltage of 32V DC. Its one-piece 3/8"-16 (M10) tinned copper stud terminals are designed to minimize heat buildup and provide maximum conductivity and corrosion resistance. These studs, 22.22 mm (7/8") long, can accommodate multiple cable lugs up to 4/0 AWG (120 mm²) per terminal, ensuring secure and reliable connections. The recommended torque is 15.82 N·m (140 in-lb).
Advanced Features and Compliance
This battery switch features advanced three-position operation: OFF, ON (isolating two battery banks), and COMBINE (connecting both banks for emergency starts). Its Make-Before-Break design allows switching between battery banks without interrupting power, a critical feature for protecting sensitive electronic equipment. The BLUE SEA e-Series Dual Circuit Plus™ is ignition-protected to UL 1500 and SAE J1171 standards, making it safe for installation on gasoline-powered boats. It is rated IP66 for protection against powerful water jets and complies with ABYC, UL Listed (UL 1107), CE, and ISO 8846 requirements. The housing allows surface or rear-panel mounting and fits the drilling patterns of Perko and Guest battery switches.
