Detailed description
Detailed description
The robust ON-OFF battery switch HD series with AFD from BLUE SEA, part number 3001B-BSS, is designed for managing single-battery circuits in demanding marine installations. With a continuous rating of 600 amperes and a 1,750-ampere starting capacity for 30 seconds, it is suitable for large diesel engines and high-power electrical systems. This model stands out for its robustness and its Alternator Field Disconnect (AFD) function, which protects the alternator diodes in case of battery disconnection while the engine is running.
Design and performance of the HD series
BLUE SEA’s HD series sits above the m-Series (300A continuous) and e-Series (350A continuous) in terms of current capacity, making it ideal for applications requiring superior power management. The tinned copper terminals (1/2 inch / M12-1.75) provide maximum conductivity and corrosion resistance, with a one-piece design to reduce the risk of overheating. Their 7/8-inch (22.22 mm) length allows for multiple cable lugs, facilitating the integration of up to eight charge cables. The recommended tightening torque is 24.86 N·m (220 in-lb) for 4/0 AWG (120 mm²) battery cables.
Safety and compliance
The 3001B-BSS complies with American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) requirements for battery circuit interrupters. It is UL-listed (UL 1107) for electrical power switches and meets external ignition protection requirements UL 1500 and SAE J1171, making it safe for installation on gasoline-powered boats. Its IP66 ingress protection rating ensures protection against dust and powerful water jets, guaranteeing reliability in marine environments. The housing allows for surface or rear-panel mounting, offering installation flexibility.
