Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for fiberglass or wooden hulls, the bronze through-hull GARMIN Airmar B164 1 kW features a 20° tilted element to compensate for hull angles from 16° to 24°. This design ensures a vertical sonar beam without requiring an external fairing block, optimizing performance for fast and trailerable vessels. Operating at dual frequencies of 50/200 kHz, it provides versatility for deep-water detection and target discrimination.
Sonar Performance and Compatibility
With a nominal power of 1 kW, the Airmar B164 achieves depths of 549 meters at 50 kHz (22° beam) and 244 meters at 200 kHz (6° beam). It is equipped with an 8-pin Garmin connector and includes a fast-response temperature sensor. Its low profile, protruding less than 6.35 mm below the hull, reduces drag and allows passage over trailer rollers, making it ideal for fast sportfishing boats up to 11 meters. Unlike the SS164 stainless steel version, this B164 is specifically intended for non-metallic hulls.
Technology and Installation
Airmar’s Tilted Element™ technology ensures the ceramics are tilted inside the housing, directing energy directly beneath the boat for accurate readings. Installation requires a 95 mm diameter hole and must be performed ensuring the 20° tilt angle matches the hull slope at the mounting point. This transducer is compatible with any Garmin fishfinder of 600 W or 1 kW with an 8-pin connection, offering seamless integration with existing navigation systems.
