The Garmin GT15M-THF 20-degree through-hull transducer is a robust and versatile sonar detection solution designed for a wide range of hull materials. Made of stainless steel, it differs from the GT12M-THF, which is made of brass and limited to fiberglass, wood, or composite hulls. The GT15M-THF model, however, is fully compatible with fiberglass, wood, composite, aluminum, and steel hulls, provided that the supplied galvanic isolation components are installed for metal hulls to prevent corrosion. This transducer is optimized for deadrise angles of 17 to 24 degrees, ensuring optimal sonar performance within this range.
Advanced Installation and Compatibility
Installing the Garmin GT15M-THF 20-degree requires careful attention to the hull’s deadrise angle, which must be measured precisely to match the transducer’s preconfigured 20-degree angle. For optimal performance, the transducer must be mounted in an area of clean water, free from turbulence caused by propellers, keels, or other hull appendages. Specific tools are required for installation, including 73 mm (2 7/8 in) hole saws for fiberglass and 75 mm (3 in) for metal, as well as marine sealant to ensure a watertight fit. Correct alignment of the transducer’s arrow toward the keel is critical for internal angle alignment. It is also necessary to update the Garmin display’s software after installation to ensure full integration and functionality.
