The Garmin STRIKER™ Vivid 9sv is a 9-inch fishfinder/GPS combo designed for fishing, positioned as the largest and most capable model in the STRIKER Vivid series. This bundle includes the GT52HW-TM transom-mount transducer, offering technical versatility for fish and underwater structure detection. While Garmin’s ECHOMAP or GPSMAP lines provide advanced mapping features and expanded networking capabilities, the STRIKER Vivid series focuses on superior sonar imaging and user simplicity for anglers. The 9sv features a bright display and intuitive interface, making it suitable for efficient navigation and detection.

Advanced Sonar Technology: GT52HW-TM Transducer

The included Garmin GT52HW-TM transducer is a key component of this system. It supports traditional CHIRP, ClearVü, and SideVü technologies, enabling detailed visualization of the seafloor and submerged structures. In traditional CHIRP mode, it operates on a wide high-frequency band (150–240 kHz) with 250 W power, reaching depths up to 244 m (800 ft). For ClearVü and SideVü imaging, the transducer uses 455/800 kHz frequencies with 350 W power, delivering exceptional lateral range and clarity up to 152 m (500 ft). The transducer also includes a temperature sensor, providing essential environmental data.

Connectivity and Integration of the STRIKER Vivid 9sv

The STRIKER Vivid 9sv features 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connectivity (up to 1.8 dBm) for various functions. It allows data sharing with other Garmin ECHOMAP™ or STRIKER devices via dedicated blue and brown wires. The unit operates on 12 Vdc power and requires a 3.0 A fuse for protection. An integrated GPS enables accurate waypoint marking, offering basic navigation capabilities without requiring detailed mapping, which distinguishes it from more complex multifunction chartplotters.

Robust Design and Installation

The STRIKER Vivid 9sv is engineered for marine environments. It provides a 45 cm (17.7 in) compass-safe distance, an important specification for onboard integration. Mounting options include a fixed bracket, and while other models in the series (Vivid 5/7) may use a tilting bracket, the 9sv is primarily intended for fixed or flush mounting. A cutout template is provided, with cutout dimensions of 116 mm (4 9/16 in) in height and 264 mm (10 3/8 in) in width. The unit is designed to operate within specific temperature ranges and must not be submerged, ensuring durability under normal surface-use conditions. Cables are designed for secure connections, simplifying electrical and transducer installation.
