Detailed description
Detailed description
The Raymarine M81135 rotary is a Type 1 autopilot drive unit designed for sailboats equipped with chain-and-pinion steering systems. It is intended for vessels with a maximum displacement of 10,000 kg, providing a precise and quiet steering solution. This model differs from the Type 2 rotary (M81136 for 12 V or M81137 for 24 V) in its lower load capacity; the Type 2 is suited for boats up to 20,000 kg with an output torque of 34 Nm, compared to 20 Nm for the Type 1.
Design and Technical Performance
The M81135 rotary integrates a robust electric motor that drives a precision epicyclic gearbox via a high-strength drive belt. An electromagnetic clutch ensures high-torque transmission without slippage. Its specifications include a maximum shaft speed of 33 rpm and a recommended rudder-to-rudder time of 10 seconds (unloaded). The typical average power consumption ranges between 24 and 48 W at 12 V.
Installation and Compliance
Designed for mounting in an engine compartment, the M81135 rotary is protected for this use. It complies with CE 89/336/CE (EMC) and EN60945:1997 standards, as well as Directive 94/25/CE (RCD) and EN28846:1993. Installation requires a solid mounting structure and a dry location, as the unit is not waterproof. It is supplied with the rotary, a mounting base, and three spacing shims, requiring suitable mounting bolts, pinions, chain, and electrical connectors for full integration into the Raymarine autopilot system.
