Detailed description
Detailed description
The SBG Ellipse A Marine AHRS inertial measurement unit is a compact and rugged attitude and heading reference system (AHRS) designed for precise determination of orientation and heave in dynamic marine environments. Integrating an industrial-grade MEMS-based inertial measurement unit (IMU) and calibrated magnetometers, it provides reliable data for demanding applications such as underwater navigation, equipment stabilization, and surface motion tracking.
Technical performance and accuracy
The Ellipse A delivers exceptional attitude accuracy with a roll and pitch error of 0.1° in static mode, and 0.4° in dynamic marine conditions. Magnetic heading is provided with an accuracy of 0.8° in static mode after calibration, under a homogeneous magnetic field. A next-generation heave algorithm automatically adjusts wave period (up to 15–20 seconds), ensuring an accuracy of 5 cm or 5% (whichever is greater), critical for bathymetric surveys and dynamic positioning systems.
Onboard sensors include accelerometers (marine range ±8 g), gyroscopes (marine range ±450 °/s), and magnetometers (50 Gauss range). These sensors are paired with advanced filters for effective vibration management (8 g RMS resistance from 20 Hz to 2 kHz per MIL-STD 810G) and sophisticated magnetic calibration for enhanced robustness against transient magnetic disturbances. The IMU data output rate can reach 1 kHz, ensuring optimal responsiveness for stabilization and pointing applications.
