Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for high-quality commercial marine radar solutions, the Simrad 12kW X-Band SRT LAN radar pedestal (R5000) is a central component of the Simrad R5000 radar series. This pedestal delivers 12 kW output power in the X-band, operating at a frequency of 9410 ± 30 MHz, and is specifically developed for SOLAS Category 1 and 2 vessels, including high-speed craft (HSC), with the required IMO and U.S. Coast Guard certifications (ARPA, ATA, EPA).
Technical Performance and System Integration
The R5000 pedestal is available as a transceiver at the masthead, simplifying installation and reducing cabling costs. It is compatible with open-array antennas of 6, 9, and 12 feet. Its detection capabilities are characterized by short (80 ns), medium (250 ns), and long (800 ns) pulse lengths, with a pulse repetition frequency (PRF) of 3000 Hz for short pulses. It ensures a minimum range of less than 40 meters and a range discrimination of less than 40 meters, guaranteeing clear imagery even at close range.
Connectivity and Advanced Features
Connectivity to the radar processor is via a thin, easy-to-route Ethernet cable, supporting lengths up to 65 meters. The R5000 system features a modular "plug & play" design enabling scalable installation for single or multi-radar configurations. It can manage up to four radar sensors, four master/slave displays, and an unlimited number of "clone" stations on the network, providing operational flexibility and redundancy. Advanced digital signal processing contributes to superior target detection. For operation in extreme environments, the system can be equipped with antenna group heaters to function down to -40°C. The target tracking capability allows for the instantaneous display of 100 radar targets and background tracking of 2,500 targets. Compared to Simrad’s Halo series recreational radars, the R5000 targets the professional segment with distinct performance and certification requirements for commercial and offshore navigation.
