Detailed description
The Victron Energy MultiPlus 48/5000/70-100 (model PMP485021010) is an integrated power solution combining a pure sine wave inverter, an adaptive battery charger, and an ultra-fast AC transfer switch in a compact housing. Designed for 48V DC systems, it delivers a continuous output power of 5000 VA (4000 W) at 230 VAC, 50 Hz, with a battery charging capacity of 70 amperes and an AC transfer switch rated at 100 amperes. This model serves as a central component for marine installations, recreational vehicles, or standalone power systems requiring sophisticated power management, providing sufficient capacity for most onboard loads. It distinguishes itself from lower-range MultiPlus models by its 5 kVA capacity, enabling the powering of more energy-intensive equipment. For higher demands, up to six units can be paralleled to achieve an inverter power of 30 kVA (24 kW) and a charging capacity of 420 amperes. In three-phase configuration, up to six sets of three units (18 units total) can be connected in parallel to provide an inverter power of up to 72 kW / 90 kVA and a charging capacity exceeding 1200 amperes.
Advanced power and battery management
The MultiPlus integrates PowerControl and PowerAssist features. PowerControl limits the battery charging current to prevent overloading a limited AC source (such as a generator or shore power connection). PowerAssist goes further by temporarily increasing the capacity of the limited AC source, drawing from the battery to supplement power during peak demand, allowing the use of smaller generators. The four-stage adaptive charging system (bulk, absorption, float, storage) is optimized to extend battery life, including lithium-ion batteries, with functions such as BatterySafe mode to prevent excessive gassing and Storage mode to reduce maintenance during periods of inactivity. A temperature sensor is provided to optimize charging voltage, and voltage sensing compensates for losses due to cable resistance.
Key features and system integration
With its UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) function, the MultiPlus ensures automatic and seamless transition to inverter mode in under 20 milliseconds during an AC power failure, guaranteeing continuity for sensitive equipment. It features two AC outputs: the main output providing seamless functionality, and an auxiliary output that activates only when AC power is available (for non-critical loads). An independent float charging output is also included for a second battery (limited to 4A). For solar applications, it can shift the output frequency to manage solar inverters, using excess energy to recharge batteries. Remote monitoring and control are possible via a Victron GX device (such as the Cerbo GX) and the Victron Remote Management (VRM) portal, offering comprehensive system management. The MultiPlus is a key component of Victron Energy Storage Systems (ESS) and is compatible with standalone or grid-tied PV installations. It is covered by a 5-year warranty.
