The Victron Energy SmartSolar MPPT VE.Can charge controller, identified by SKU SCC125070521, is designed to optimize solar panel energy harvesting and ensure efficient charging of battery banks. This model features ultra-fast MPPT technology that, in cloudy conditions or varying light intensity, can improve energy production by up to 30% compared to PWM controllers and up to 10% compared to slower MPPT controllers.
Advanced Solar Energy Management
This controller is equipped with advanced maximum power point (MPP) tracking, essential in cases of partial shading where multiple MPPs may exist. Its innovative algorithm ensures constant locking onto the optimal MPP, maximizing energy input. With a conversion efficiency exceeding 98%, the SmartSolar MPPT VE.Can operates without a cooling fan, ensuring increased durability and low standby consumption (less than 35 mA at 12 V and 20 mA at 48 V). It manages battery voltages of 12 V, 24 V, 36 V (manual), and 48 V with automatic detection, and accepts maximum PV open-circuit voltages of 150 V.
Connectivity and System Integration
The VE.Can functionality allows synchronization of up to 25 charge controllers for coordinated battery bank management, offering significant expansion capacity. This interface also facilitates connection to a Color Control GX or other GX devices for individual monitoring and integration with the Victron Remote Management (VRM) portal. Additionally, integrated Bluetooth Smart enables wireless configuration and monitoring via the VictronConnect app, as well as synchronization of up to 10 units. A VE.Direct connection is also available for wired communications with GX devices or PCs. SmartSolar MPPT VE.Can models differ from non-VE.Can SmartSolar models by their ability to form larger controller networks and integrate more deeply into complex systems requiring the CAN-bus protocol, such as managing third-party smart batteries via VE.Can to CAN-bus BMS cables.
Features and Protections
The controller offers a fully programmable charging algorithm, complemented by eight selectable presets. It can recover fully discharged batteries, including Li-ion batteries with integrated disconnect function. Comprehensive electronic protections are included: overheating protection with power reduction, PV short-circuit, PV reverse polarity, and PV reverse current. An internal temperature sensor and the ability to connect external voltage/temperature/current sensors (via Smart Battery Sense, BMV-712 Smart, or SmartShunt) ensure compensated and optimized charging. A programmable relay and remote on/off function complete the feature set.
