Mach 40.5 no.186 (ex-IBSA): 2023 Class40 champion, taken over in 2025 by Les Déferlantes
The Class40 Alderan (FRA186) is a Mach 40.5 designed by Sam Manuard and built by JPS Production in La Trinité-sur-Mer, launched in August 2022. It is the second Mach 40.5 to come out of the yard after Crédit Mutuel. The boat raced its first three seasons under the Italian colors of the pharmaceutical sponsor IBSA, skippered by Alberto Bona, before being purchased in 2025 by Sasha Lanièce for Les Déferlantes Sailing Team.
Design: the second generation of Manuard scow in Class40
The Mach 40.5 is the fifth iteration of the Mach 40 series (Manuard / JPS), developed after the dominance of the Mach 40.4 in the 2018 Route du Rhum. The hull extends the wide bow inherited from the Mini 6.50 scow to increase power in reaching conditions, optimizing longitudinal balance to reduce bow diving under running conditions. It is now the benchmark platform in Class40, with several boats on the podium of major races since 2022.
First life: IBSA / Alberto Bona, 2023 Class40 champion
Launched in August 2022, the boat immediately set sail for the Route du Rhum 2022 under the name IBSA, where Alberto Bona finished 8th in Class40 in 15 days 6 hours 19 minutes. The 2023 season was the busiest for the hull:
- RORC Caribbean 600 2023 — 1st in Class40.
- Les Sables – Horta – Les Sables 2023 — 1st in Class40 with Pablo Santurde del Arco, and Class40 24-hour record at 430.47 nautical miles on the first leg.
- Transat Jacques Vabre 2023 — 3rd in Class40 with Pablo Santurde del Arco.
- Class40 Champion 2023 (annual ranking).
The 2024 season continued with a 5th in The Transat CIC, a 3rd in the Normandy Channel Race, and a 7th in the Transat Québec – Saint-Malo, still under the IBSA flag.
2025 takeover: Alderan, Les Déferlantes
The boat switches to the French flag in 2025 when Sasha Lanièce acquires it for the Les Déferlantes project — the first all-female offshore racing project structured around two classes (Class40 and Mini 6.50). Title sponsor: Alderan, an independent real estate portfolio management company (founded 2015, AMF-approved), committed for three years to approximately 80% of the budget for an announced program of 20 races and 4 transatlantic races. Early results on the boat:
- Armen Race Uship 2025 — 4th.
- Les Sables – Horta – Les Sables 2025 — 13th overall.
- Transat Café L'Or 2025 — 18th in Class40, double-handed with Sanni Beucke (Olympic silver medalist in 49erFX, Ocean Race competitor).
- Preparation for Route du Rhum 2026 solo.
