Switches and sockets for marine electrical installations
This collection includes the components that are visible and handled daily on the electrical panel, at the helm station or in the fittings: switches, push buttons, sockets, mounting brackets, and control interfaces. The correct choice depends on the circuit to be controlled, the voltage, the current, exposure to moisture, and the type of visual feedback required.
Lever, toggle, and Contura switches
Lever switches are suitable for clear and unambiguous controls. Toggle switches and Contura formats integrate better into modular panels. Before selecting a switch, check the electrical function: simple on/off, momentary, changeover, SPDT, DPST, or DPDT. The button mechanics must match the expected behavior of the circuit.
The Blue Sea WeatherDeck DPDT momentary on-off-on lever switch is suitable for circuits requiring two separate on positions. For a Contura-style panel, the Contura DPST gray OFF-ON switch and the Contura SPDT ON-OFF-ON switch address different control configurations.
Push buttons and illuminated controls
A momentary push button is used to trigger an action while pressed: horn, temporary control, signal, or one-time activation. An ON/OFF maintained button is better suited for circuits that must remain powered. Illuminated rings improve nighttime visibility and can serve as status feedback if wiring allows.
BEP push buttons are available in multiple voltages and behaviors, such as the 12V red ON/OFF push button switch, the 12V blue momentary push button, or the 24V blue IP67 ON/OFF push button. Mantagua models, such as the flush-mount push button switch, are better suited for discrete lighting or interior fitting controls.
12V sockets, AC sockets, and shore power sockets
Not all power sockets serve the same purpose. A 12V socket powers a low-voltage accessory or a charger. An indoor or outdoor AC socket must be selected based on voltage, current, protection, and circuit standards. A shore power socket requires special attention to amperage, grounding, and connection quality.
For simple 12V power, the Marinco 12VDC cigarette lighter socket is suitable for low-voltage accessories. For AC, the Scanstrut Ventura double AC socket 125V 20A fits panel or fitting use depending on the installation. For shore power connections, the Mastervolt 2+PE 16A/230V and 2+PE 32A/230V sockets cover two common amperage ratings.
Mounting brackets, modules, and digital switching
A clean panel depends not only on the switch: the mounting bracket, alignment, and access to connections are equally important. Contura brackets allow for a consistent row. Digital switching systems add a layer of control and integration for more complex installations.
The Contura single, Contura center, and Contura end brackets simplify the construction of a modular panel. For CZone installations, the Digital Switch Breakout 6-way allows multiple controls to be connected to a digital switching system.
Points to check before ordering
Verify the circuit voltage, maximum current, contact type, number of poles, momentary or maintained behavior, protection rating, available depth behind the panel, and terminal type. For high-current battery disconnects, use the battery disconnects collection. For USB ports and charging, see USB and Chargers. For the complete circuit architecture, the Electrical collection includes complementary equipment.
