Detailed description
Detailed description
The WS710 vertical 0.8 m wind sensor from B&G is a vane anemometer designed for regatta sailing and offshore racing. It is part of the WS700 series and provides wind speed and angle data. Its 0.8-meter short mast keeps the sensor clear of sail plan disturbances on sailboats where this height is sufficient.
Aerodynamic design
The WS710’s design is based on over 200,000 hours of wind tunnel testing. The 0.8-meter high-modulus carbon vertical mast positions the sensor in clean airflow and reduces the aerodynamic impact of sails. It measures true wind data (TWD) with reduced calibration. The vane is a single-piece unit.
Integration and connectivity
The WS710 sensor connects via an NMEA 0183 output to H5000 or WTP3 navigation systems and provides MWV and R sentences at a 10 Hz frequency. Connection to an NMEA 2000 network is possible via an optional wired interface. It installs with a single mast cable and a mounting base compatible with previous generations of B&G sensors.
