Detailed description
Detailed description
The BEP CZone SBH 15m temperature sensor (ref. 80-716-0032-00) is an accessory designed specifically for BEP’s Smart Battery Hub (SBH). It provides ambient temperature data required for accurate State of Charge (SoC) calculations of your battery bank. This sensor connects directly to the dedicated inputs on the SBH, enabling precise thermal management of your electrical installation.
Integration and precise measurement for the Smart Battery Hub
BEP’s SBH is a centralized battery management system that integrates motorized switches, automatic voltage switching (VSS), and an emergency paralleling function. To refine its State of Charge calculation algorithms, the SBH features two additional sensor inputs (voltage, level, temperature). The SBH 15m temperature sensor plugs into one of these inputs and transmits ambient temperature data to the hub. This information is critical because a battery’s capacity varies significantly with temperature. Unlike lithium batteries, which often include their own internal probes, this sensor is particularly suited to lead-acid batteries (AGM, gel, flooded) where temperature compensation is essential to avoid undercharging or overcharging. The SBH, unlike simpler systems such as the BEP Contor Connect (80-700-0050-00), which is limited to switching, integrates this advanced monitoring dimension.
NMEA 2000 connectivity for centralized display
Once temperature data is acquired by the SBH, it is transmitted over the NMEA 2000 network. You can then view your battery compartment temperature directly on your chartplotter (B&G Zeus³S, Simrad NSS, Garmin GPSMAP) or any other NMEA 2000-compatible display. This enables centralized monitoring of your battery bank’s health without adding complex wiring. The 15-meter cable provides sufficient installation flexibility to place the sensor as close as possible to the batteries, even on large vessels, while keeping the SBH in an accessible and dry location.
