Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for remote power circuit management, the Blue Sea Systems ML 12V DC solenoid (PN 7701) is a latching magnetic switch. It stands out for its ability to switch high loads without requiring direct manual control of the device, unlike the ML-Series remote battery switches (PN 7700/7702) that include manual operation. This feature makes it ideal for installations where physical access to the switch is limited or unnecessary.
Technical Performance and Power Consumption
The 7701-BSS solenoid delivers significant electrical performance with a nominal voltage of 12V DC and a contact voltage range of 0-64V, making it compatible with multi-voltage systems. Its bi-stable magnetic latching design ensures zero continuous current draw, drawing power (less than 7A for 20 ms) only during state changes (ON/OFF). It supports a 1,450A inrush current for 30 seconds and a continuous current of 500A, with a 700A intermittent capacity for 5 minutes. These specifications position it for demanding applications such as engine starters, inverters, or bow thrusters.
Marine Integration and Reliability
Equipped with 3/8"-16 (M10) tinned copper studs and stainless steel flange nuts, the ML 12V DC solenoid ensures maximum conductivity and high corrosion resistance. Its design meets external ignition protection requirements (ISO 8846 and SAE J1171) and carries an IP66 rating, providing protection against powerful water jets. The device includes an LED output for remote state indication and is typically supplied with a Contura remote control switch (model 2145) for easy integration into the dashboard. The operating temperature range of -10°C to 60°C attests to its robustness in marine environments.
