Detailed description
Detailed description
The CYCLOPS Smartbatten T1 is a wireless load sensor designed to precisely measure compressive load on sail battens. Launched in 2023, this system provides real-time data essential for tuning and optimizing sail shape on performance and racing yachts.
Load measurement and accuracy
This sensor is specifically designed for compressive loads up to 100 kg for size 1. It is factory-calibrated and guarantees an accuracy of ±1% of its maximum working load (MWL) within a temperature range of -10 to +40℃. The Smartbatten T1 enables sailors to achieve and reproduce fast, precise sail settings.
Design and battery life
Weighing just 22g for the sensor and a net system weight of about 44g (including sensor, adapter, and compression block), the Smartbatten T1 is made of titanium (Ti6Al4V) for size 1, with a PC/ABS housing ensuring lightweight construction. It features a 0.925Wh lithium polymer battery providing 80 days of battery life in normal use (1Hz) and up to 500 days in sleep mode ("napping mode"). Wireless charging takes less than one hour.
Connectivity and integration
The Smartbatten T1 uses wireless technology to relay load data. It can connect directly to a smartphone via the Cyclops Smartfittings Manager app (available on iOS and Android), enabling live load visualization, session recording, and post-race analysis. For integration with onboard instruments, the sensor can connect via a Cyclops gateway (sold separately), offering NMEA2000, NMEA0183, NKE, UDP, and MQTT outputs, and supporting up to 50 sensors.
Installation and maintenance
The Smartbatten T1 system is designed for "Plug and Play" installation in C-Tech CT22 battens, with other adapter sizes available. Installation requires shortening the batten to accommodate the sensing unit. Maintenance is limited to wireless recharging of the sensor using the supplied charger. The sensor has three operating modes: on (1Hz), extended use (0.25Hz for battery conservation), and off.
