Smarttune 1/2" load sensor turnbuckle

The CYCLOPS Smarttune 1/2" is a wireless load sensor designed to replace existing turnbuckles in your rigging. It allows precise, real-time measurement of standing rigging tension, such as stays, backstays, shrouds, and jumper struts. Its primary purpose is to optimize sailboat performance and enhance onboard safety through constant load monitoring.

The Smarttune 1/2" is calibrated for a load of 2,500 kg and has a breaking load of 6,200 kg. It weighs 390 g and its dimensions are 60x170x26 mm. The sensor is fitted with a standard 1/2-inch thread.

The Smarttune 1/2" transducer is powered by two AAA batteries. These batteries provide an autonomy of approximately 16 months. It is important to note that the 1/4", 5/16", and 1" versions include a rechargeable LiPo battery with an on/off button and control via the app, which is not the case for the 1/2" model.

Installing the Smarttune 1/2" is designed as a direct replacement for your existing turnbuckle. Simply unscrew the old turnbuckle and screw the Smarttune in its place. It is recommended to apply anti-seize paste to the threads before installation. Steps include fully releasing the backstay and mainsail, securing the mast with halyards, measuring the reference forestay length, and correctly orienting the Smarttune so that model/serial numbers are readable.

The Smarttune 1/2" transmits load data in real time via Bluetooth to a smartphone running the Cyclops Smartfittings app. For integration with onboard instruments, an optional Cyclops gateway is required, enabling compatibility with NMEA2000, NMEA0183, NKE, UDP and MQTT systems. It is also directly compatible with third-party wireless displays such as the Vakaros Atlas 2 and Sailmon MAX, and via the Cyclops gateway with displays from brands like B&G and Raymarine.

Exceeding the maximum working load (MWL) of the Smarttune 1/2" (2,500 kg) may damage the sensor's internal components and void the warranty. An overload of up to 150% of the calibrated load (3,750 kg) may also cause permanent damage to the sensor and require recalibration.

The Smarttune 1/2" sensor provides an accuracy of +/- 1% of the calibrated load. This accuracy is maintained within a temperature range of 0 to 40°C.

Yes, it is strongly recommended to change the batteries in a dry, enclosed space, such as below deck. It is critical to ensure the integrity of the battery cover gasket, as any failure could lead to water ingress and permanent damage not covered by the warranty. Do not use non-standard batteries or batteries of different sizes. Additionally, do not unscrew or remove any other fasteners than those required for battery replacement, as this could damage the sensor and void the warranty.
