Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed to enhance navigation and maritime safety, the FLIR M232 thermal camera provides detailed night vision and advanced surveillance capabilities. Equipped with a 320 x 240 VOx microbolometer sensor integrating a Boson™ thermal core, it can detect objects, buoys, or people in the water in total darkness or reduced visibility.
Optical Performance and Mobility
The FLIR M232 features continuous 4x digital zoom and a 24° x 18° field of view, with a 9 Hz video refresh rate. Its continuous 360° pan and +110°/-90° tilt system offers extended coverage for comprehensive maritime environment surveillance. The camera can detect a human-sized target at 559 meters and a 30-foot vessel at 1,850 meters.
Integration and Advanced Features
The camera integrates via an H264 IP video stream with multifunction displays (MFD) from brands such as Furuno, Garmin, Raymarine, and Simrad. Pan and tilt control can be operated directly from the MFD touchscreen or via an optional JCU-3 joystick control unit. When paired with a Raymarine Axiom display, the M232 activates the ClearCruise™ Object Detection feature, providing visual and audible alerts for non-aquatic objects identified. It also supports Slew-to-Cue integration with radar systems, enabling automatic camera direction toward selected AIS or ARPA/MARPA targets.
Robust Design and Flexible Installation
Weighing 2.7 kg (without pedestal) or 3.0 kg (with pedestal), the FLIR M232 is a compact and lightweight pan/tilt camera. Its gimbal waterproof housing is rated IPX6, ensuring resistance to powerful water jets and heavy seas. It includes automatic heaters for the optical window to manage frost. Its operating temperature range is from -25°C to +55°C, and it is designed to withstand shocks (15 g vertical, 9 g horizontal), vibrations (IEC 60945; MIL-STD-810E), salt fog (IEC60945), and winds up to 100 knots. It is powered by 12 or 24 VDC, with a typical consumption of 15 W (maximum 18 W).
