Detailed description
Detailed description
The Garmin GCV™ 20 CHIRP scanning sonar module is designed to significantly enhance underwater detection capabilities on the Garmin marine network. This dedicated module integrates ClearVü™ and SideVü™ CHIRP scanning technologies into your existing navigation system, providing photographic-quality images of structures and fish beneath and alongside your vessel.
Advanced Sonar Performance
The GCV™ 20 operates on multiple CHIRP frequencies (260/455/820/1120 kHz) with a 500 W RMS transmission power. For ClearVü™ technology at 260 kHz, it offers a maximum range of 152 meters (500 feet), while at 455 kHz the range is 91 meters (300 feet) and at 820 kHz it reaches 61 meters (200 feet). In SideVü™ mode, the capabilities are similar at 260 kHz (152 m) and 455 kHz (91 m), with 820 kHz (61 m) and a range of 38 meters (125 feet) at 1120 kHz, enabling detailed exploration of seabeds and submerged structures.
Robust Design and System Integration
Measuring 192 x 251 x 66 mm and weighing 845 g, the GCV™ 20 module features a fully waterproof polycarbonate housing compliant with IPX7 standards, ensuring resistance to accidental immersion. It is designed to operate within a temperature range of -15° to 70°C and accepts a 10 to 35 Vdc power supply, with a maximum consumption of 10.5 W. Integration with the onboard system is achieved via the Garmin marine network, allowing direct connection to a compatible chartplotter or through a GMS™ 10 network port expander. The module requires a 4.0 A fuse and maintains a 260 mm safety distance from the compass. Unlike systems integrated into Garmin ECHOMAP UHD or GPSMAP x3 chartplotters, the GCV™ 20 is a standalone module that brings advanced scanning technologies to existing installations or dedicates processing power to sonar without overloading the main unit.
