Detailed description
Detailed description
The GNX™ 43 wired sail pack by Garmin is an integrated solution designed for cruising and racing sailboats requiring clear and reliable navigation data display. This pack combines the GNX™ instrument displays, known for their readability, with a GND™ 10 network bridge, enabling the connection of Nexus® sensors (such as the gWind™ wind vane-anemometers) to a NMEA 2000® network. Unlike Garmin’s multifunction chartplotters, this pack focuses on dedicated display of essential data (speed, heading, wind, depth) without distraction. It serves as a more accessible and specialized alternative to full systems like B&G’s Zeus³S, while offering native integration with racing navigation software such as Expedition® and Adrena®.
Components and connectivity of the GNX™ 43 pack
The pack includes a GNX™ 43 instrument (likely a 4.3-inch display) and the GND™ 10 interface box. The GND™ 10 acts as a gateway between the proprietary Nexus® network and the NMEA 2000® standard. It allows Nexus® sensor data, such as wind speed and angle, to be transmitted over the NMEA 2000® network for sharing with other compatible instruments and chartplotters. The GND™ 10 also features a USB port for PC connection, enabling advanced calibration of wind sensors (such as the gWind Race™) via the NexusRace™ software and data export to routing and tactical software. The pack ships with a field-installable Nexus® mast cable with connector.
Performance and data display
The GNX™ 43 instrument displays data from sensors connected via the NMEA 2000® network or directly from the Nexus® network. It offers preconfigured profiles for cruising (SAIL CRUISE) and racing (SAIL RACE), with dedicated instrument pages (SOG, heading, true wind angle and speed, waypoint distance). Users can customize data fields and display layouts. The screen is designed for optimal readability even in bright sunlight, and the instrument is waterproof to IPX7 standards. The GND™ 10 box provides robust power and data management with a power consumption limited to 1.1 W on the NMEA 2000® network.
