Detailed description
Detailed description
The Garmin GNX Wind wind instrument is a dedicated solution for displaying wind data on sailboats. Designed for seamless integration into NMEA 2000 networks, this instrument provides accurate and reliable readings of essential wind information. It serves as a monochrome wind display, offering a targeted alternative to more complex multifunction displays like the Garmin GNX 20 or GNX 21, or competing systems such as the B&G Triton² or Raymarine i70s, which provide color displays and extended functionality for other instrument data. The GNX Wind focuses on the efficiency and clarity of wind data, which is critical for sailing.
Robust Design and Technical Specifications
The Garmin GNX Wind features a fully waterproof polycarbonate housing and an anti-reflective glass lens, ensuring optimal durability in marine environments. Its water resistance complies with IEC 60529 IPX7 standards, allowing for accidental immersion up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. Its overall dimensions are 110 x 115 x 30 mm (H x W x D) without the protective cover and 115 x 120 x 35.5 mm with it. The device weighs 247 g without the cover and 283 g with it. It operates within an extended temperature range of -15°C to 70°C, with a safe distance of 209 mm from the compass, ensuring installation flexibility aboard.
Connectivity and Energy Efficiency
The Garmin GNX Wind instrument connects and powers via the NMEA 2000 network, simplifying integration into the boat's electronic system. While it does not directly receive NMEA 0183 data, it can display this information if it comes from a GNX 20 or GNX 21 device (sold separately) connected to the same NMEA 2000 network. Additionally, it can integrate data from Nexus instruments via a GND 10 gateway (sold separately). With a maximum power consumption of 1.35 W and an NMEA 2000 input voltage of 9 to 16 Vdc, the GNX Wind is designed for maximum energy efficiency, a major asset for sailboats where every watt counts. Its NMEA 2000 load equivalence number (LEN) is 3 (150 mA at 9 Vdc).
