Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for marine navigation, Garmin’s GPS 19x HVS is a high-sensitivity antenna/receiver compatible with NMEA 0183. It provides position, speed, and time data with 3-meter accuracy thanks to WAAS capability and multi-GNSS support including GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and QZSS (requiring potential software update). This sensor is intended for integration with existing marine instruments, autopilots, and multifunction displays (MFD) communicating via the NMEA 0183 standard.
Performance and integration
The GPS 19x HVS stands out with its data update rate of up to 10 Hz, configurable at 1 Hz or 5 Hz, delivering smooth position and heading representation on displays. This responsiveness is particularly beneficial for applications requiring dynamic accuracy, such as track following or low-speed drift (below 1 mph), where it eliminates the "position jump" phenomenon often seen with less capable units. Unlike the GPS 19x NMEA 2000, this version is specifically designed for NMEA 0183 network architectures, ensuring compatibility with older equipment or specific installations.
Technical specifications and installation
With compact dimensions of 91.6 mm in diameter and 49.5 mm in height, weighing 201 g, the GPS 19x HVS is easy to install. It operates on a voltage range of 8 to 33 Vdc and consumes 40 mA at 12 Vdc. Its high-strength plastic alloy housing, fully watertight and rated IPX7, ensures durability suited to marine environments, handling temperatures from -30°C to 80°C. The included 9.14-meter cable simplifies wiring. Installation flexibility is a key feature, allowing mounting on mast, surface, or under fiberglass deck, with a 150 mm safe distance from the compass. The flash-based program enables software updates via download.
