Detailed description
Detailed description
The Garmin GPSMAP 1222 is a chartplotter and multifunction display (MFD) designed for professional navigation and advanced marine systems. Part of the current GPSMAP MFD family, it stands out for its extended video integration capabilities, positioning it as a central solution for onboard monitoring and management. Unlike older series such as the GPSMAP 7x1, 7400, or 7600, the GPSMAP 1222 natively integrates a video encoder function, enabling the sharing of composite video streams across the entire Garmin Marine Network.
Advanced Video Integration and Monitoring
The GPSMAP 1222 supports integration with third-party network cameras, including Garmin GC 14 and GC 200 models, as well as FLIR cameras from the M and MD series. This compatibility allows viewing video streams on any network display or multiple streams on a combined screen. The touch interface provides intuitive camera control, with pinch gestures for zooming and swipe gestures for panning/tilting. It is possible to customize and store presets for each camera, including position and zoom data. To integrate standard Ethernet equipment, a Garmin PoE isolation coupler (part number 010-10580-10) is required to protect the chartplotter from potential damage from a direct PoE connection. Garmin recommends a maximum of five simultaneous video sources for optimal network performance.
FLIR Tracking and Customization Features
This MFD offers advanced camera tracking capabilities, including compass lock, vessel lock, and tracking of AIS targets, MARPA, or waypoints (slew-to-cue). To activate these functions, integration of specific sensors is required, such as a GPS antenna, a heading sensor (ideally 9-axis for pitch and roll), an AIS receiver compatible for AIS tracking, and a radar compatible for MARPA tracking. Regarding FLIR cameras, the Garmin GPSMAP 1222 allows modifying polarity, color scheme, and scene adjustment (night, day, man overboard). FLIR M-series dual-payload models can switch between thermal and visible views, while MD-series models offer only thermal view. The device is designed for flush-mount installation, with precise cutout dimensions of 347.5 mm width by 214.6 mm height, ensuring a clean integration into the dashboard.
