Detailed description
Detailed description
The GPSMAP® 8410 is a 10-inch multifunction chartplotter from Garmin, designed for recreational boaters and demanding professionals seeking a complete and scalable navigation system. Supplied with worldwide chart data, it provides a solid foundation for outfitting a helm station, whether on a cruising sailboat or a powerboat. Powered by 10–35 Vdc, it features an IPX7 waterproof rating and comprehensive connectivity: NMEA 0183, NMEA 2000, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Garmin Marine Network (Ethernet), HDMI input/output, composite video BNC, J1939, and USB.
Position in the GPSMAP 8000 series
The GPSMAP 8400/8600 series from Garmin is available in multiple screen sizes. The GPSMAP® 8410 represents the entry-level model in this family with a 10-inch display, alongside the 8412 (12-inch) and 8416 (16-inch). Compared to the now-discontinued GPSMAP 8000 and 8200 series, the 8400 series adds native support for composite video encoded over the network, HDMI compatibility, and integrated wireless connectivity (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth). Against direct competitors — notably the Zeus³S 12 from B&G or the Axiom+ 10 from Raymarine — the GPSMAP 8410 stands out for its extensive physical ports and deep integration within the Garmin ecosystem (radar, fishfinder, autopilot, VHF). NMEA 2000 certification and four NMEA 0183 ports ensure maximum compatibility with third-party equipment.
Connectivity and network integration
The GPSMAP® 8410 natively integrates into a Garmin Marine Network via Ethernet, enabling data sharing for radar, fishfinder, and charting across multiple displays. It includes an integrated composite video encoder, allowing it to stream video received on its BNC input to all chartplotters on the network — a feature absent from the older 8000, 8200, 8500, and 7x1 series. Compatibility is ensured with FLIR M-series cameras (IP and composite), Garmin GC 200 network cameras, and GC™ 14 analog cameras, via the required Garmin PoE isolation coupler (010-10580-10) for standard Ethernet connections to the Garmin network. The HDMI output allows display on a secondary screen, particularly useful in wheelhouses.
Installation and mounting of the GPSMAP® 8410
The GPSMAP® 8410 is designed for flush-mount installation, with a cutting template provided in the box. Cutout dimensions are documented: 250 mm × 176.7 mm for the main window. Installation of ferrite cores is recommended on the power cable and each network or transducer cable, following Garmin’s instructions. NMEA 0183 wiring uses a dedicated multi-pin connector (up to 4 input/output ports). The total weight is 6.12 kg, which should be considered when reinforcing the mounting surface. Software configuration is performed via the touchscreen interface or firmware updates from a memory card.
