Detailed description
Detailed description
The Garmin GPSMAP 923 is a 9-inch chartplotter designed for professional and recreational navigation. Part of the GPSMAP x23 series, it serves as a mid-range solution, offering a balance between screen size and advanced features without an integrated sounder module. It comes with worldwide mapping preloaded for immediate use, distinguishing it from combo models that include sounder functionality. Compared to the previous-generation GPSMAP 9x2, the 923 offers significant improvements, with an adapter plate (sold separately) facilitating upgrades of existing installations.
Video integration and advanced network connectivity
This chartplotter stands out for its extended video integration capabilities. It supports the addition of third-party marine cameras, including the FLIR M and MD series, as well as Garmin cameras such as the GC 14 (010-02667-00) and GC 200 (010-02164-00). Thanks to its built-in video encoder, the GPSMAP 923 can share connected video streams via its composite video inputs across the entire Garmin marine network. For optimal performance, the network can handle up to five video sources simultaneously.
The Garmin GPSMAP 923 is fully compatible with the Garmin marine network. To connect standard Ethernet devices, such as network cameras or switches, the use of a Garmin PoE isolation coupler (part number 010-10580-10) is mandatory to protect the device and the network. This architecture ensures smooth and secure integration, allowing users to fully exploit video monitoring capabilities across all boat displays.
Camera tracking features and installation
The GPSMAP 923 includes advanced camera tracking functions, including heading lock (Compass Lock), vessel-relative position lock (Vessel Lock), and tracking of AIS or MARPA targets (Slew-to-cue). These features require compatible cameras (such as recent FLIR IP cameras) and additional sensors, including a GPS antenna, a 9-axis heading sensor, an AIS receiver, and/or a radar. The flush-mount installation is simplified by a mounting template (cutout dimensions: 190.9 mm x 150.5 mm) provided with the product, ensuring precise cutting and avoiding the use of the device itself as a template. This guarantees a clean installation compliant with marine standards.
