The Garmin GPSMAP 923xsv is a 9-inch multifunction chartplotter integrating advanced fishfinder capabilities, positioned as a versatile solution for navigation and underwater detection. Part of the GPSMAP 9x3 series, it succeeds the 9x2 models and stands out with its ClearVü and SideVü fishfinder features for quasi-photographic images of structures and fish beneath the boat, complemented by a CHIRP fishfinder for targeted detection. The preloaded worldwide chartplotter base provides an immediate navigation foundation.
Advanced integration and connectivity
The GPSMAP 923xsv integrates into the Garmin Marine Network and NMEA 2000, enabling interconnection with other Garmin and third-party equipment. It offers robust video integration, supporting the display of network camera streams on the chartplotter screen. Users can view multiple video streams simultaneously on a combined display and control compatible cameras using touch gestures (pinch to zoom, swipe to pan and tilt). This feature is available on current GPSMAP chartplotters, except for the 8000, 8200, 8500, 7x1, 7400, and 7600 series, which lack the same integrated video encoder functionality. To connect standard Ethernet equipment, such as network cameras or PoE switches, a Garmin PoE isolation coupler (010-10580-10) is required to prevent damage to the chartplotter.
FLIR camera compatibility and tracking functions
This chartplotter is compatible with FLIR marine cameras in the M and MD series, offering automatic detection and direct access to thermal or low-light images. It allows modification of polarity, color schemes, and scene settings for the FLIR camera. The GPSMAP 923xsv also supports camera tracking functions such as compass lock (Compass Lock), vessel-relative position lock (Vessel Lock), and AIS/MARPA target tracking (slew-to-cue). These functions require a compatible marine camera, a GPS antenna, and a heading sensor (ideally 9-axis for optimal performance). For AIS and MARPA tracking, an AIS receiver or compatible radar is also required on the Garmin Marine Network.
Installation and robustness
Installation of the GPSMAP 923xsv is simplified by the availability of a mounting adapter for pre-existing dashboard cutouts from GPSMAP 7x2/9x2/12x2 models, ensuring an easy upgrade path. The product design adheres to Garmin’s marine environment standards, with warnings regarding immersion and operating/storage temperature ranges, ensuring reliability at sea. It complies with European (2014/53/EU), UK, ISED Canada, and FCC Part 15 Class B directives, underscoring adherence to international safety and radiofrequency performance standards.
