Detailed description
Detailed description
The Garmin GPSMAP 923xsv, supplied with the GMR 18 HD3 radar dome, is a multifunction chartplotter designed for modern marine navigation. Part of the GPSMAP 9x3 series, it represents an evolution over previous models such as the GPSMAP 9x2, offering improved features and extended system integration. This display enables superior video monitoring through integration with third-party and Garmin network cameras, including FLIR M and MD models.
Advanced video integration and network connectivity
The GPSMAP 923xsv stands out for its video integration capabilities. It allows video streams to be displayed on all Garmin Marine network screens and supports multiple video sources simultaneously on a single combined display. Users benefit from intuitive touchscreen camera control, including pinch-to-zoom and swipe-to-pan/tilt, as well as customizable position and zoom presets. For integrating standard Ethernet equipment such as network cameras or switches, the use of a Garmin PoE isolation coupler (part number 010-10580-10) is mandatory to protect the chartplotter. A shielded CAT 5e F/FTP cable is recommended for optimal performance. The system supports up to five simultaneous video streams for optimal network performance.
Tracking features and compatibility
This chartplotter integrates a video encoder function, enabling composite video inputs to be shared across the entire network. It provides automatic detection of connected FLIR cameras, simplifying installation without pre-configuration. The GPSMAP 923xsv offers customization options for FLIR cameras, including polarity, color schemes, and scene settings (night, day, man-overboard). FLIR M-series dual-payload models support switching between thermal and visible views, while MD-series are limited to thermal imaging. Dual-payload FLIR cameras can route two video streams (V/IR switchable and IR-only) to the chartplotter, providing increased flexibility.
Target tracking and integration capabilities
The GPSMAP 923xsv supports advanced camera tracking functions, including compass lock, vessel lock, and tracking of AIS, MARPA, or waypoint targets (slew-to-cue). These functions require integration of specific sensors such as a compatible FLIR IP camera, GPS antenna, and heading sensor (ideally 9-axis for increased accuracy). For AIS and MARPA tracking, an AIS receiver and a compatible radar device are also required. The package includes the GMR 18 HD3 radar dome, providing essential radar capabilities for detection and safety at sea. The positioning of the GPSMAP 9x3 series, such as the 923xsv, places it above older series like the GPSMAP 7x1, 7400, 7600, 8000, 8200, and 8500 in terms of video integration and interface modernity, offering a more current and optimized solution for contemporary navigation needs.
