Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed specifically for Yamaha® Helm Master® electronic steering systems (excluding EX version), the Garmin Reactor™ 40 autopilot package (010-02794-04) provides an advanced steering solution. This system integrates the Reactor™ 40 course control unit (CCU) and the GHC™ 50 autopilot instrument, enabling precise navigation and intuitive control. It requires a compatible Garmin chartplotter for full functionality.
Reactor™ 40 Performance and Technology
The Reactor™ 40 course control unit (CCU) is the core of this system. With dimensions of 91.4 mm in diameter and a weight of 159 g, this compact unit features a 9-axis solid-state AHRS (Attitude Heading Reference System). This technology allows flexible mounting in almost any orientation, reduces power consumption, and minimizes heading errors. The CCU operates within a temperature range of -15°C to 55°C and is waterproof to IEC 529 IPX7 standards. It maintains heading accurately even when the vessel is pitching or rolling, thanks to its responsiveness to marine conditions. The IRRT (Intelligent Rudder Rate Technology) optimizes rudder speed by adapting it to the boat's speed, improving performance and safety. The NMEA 2000 power requirement is 9–16V DC, with an NMEA 2000 LEN of 3 (150 mA).
GHC™ 50 User Interface and Integration
The GHC™ 50 autopilot instrument provides a dedicated control interface at the helm. Its 5-inch WVGA touchscreen, with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, offers clear visibility and easy operation. Its high-end industrial design complements Garmin GPSMAP® chartplotters. The GHC 50 is compatible with all GHP Reactor™ autopilots and facilitates data sharing with multifunction displays (MFD) and other Garmin devices on board. The system connects via the NMEA 2000® network (components included for basic network setup). Features such as heading hold and pre-programmed turns are available. Paired with an optional wind sensor, it also supports wind hold and tacking. The Shadow Drive™ technology allows temporary manual override without disengaging the autopilot.
Installation and Calibration
The Reactor™ 40 Package for Yamaha® Helm Master® with GHC™ 50 is designed for quick calibration using the Dockside Wizard and Sea Trial Wizard assistants. These procedures guide the user through the necessary setup steps, either via the GHC 50 instrument or a compatible Garmin chartplotter connected to the same NMEA 2000 network. For optimal and safe installation, it is recommended to have this task performed by a qualified marine installer, given the specificity of marine steering and electrical systems.
Package Contents
This package includes the Reactor 40 course control unit (CCU), the GHC™ 50 control display, a Yamaha gateway, a 3-meter CCU cable, a 3-meter buzzer with cable, 2-meter NMEA 2000 drop cables, an NMEA 2000 power cable, NMEA 2000 T-connectors, as well as male and female terminations, along with the necessary documentation.
