Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for boats with hydraulic steering, the Garmin SmartPump v2 (part number 010-00705-62) is an integrated hydraulic pump intended for Garmin Reactor™ autopilot systems. It aims to simplify the selection process with its "one-size-fits-most" design that covers the majority of applications and hydraulic cylinder volumes. This approach contrasts with more segmented pump ranges, where precise matching between the pump and cylinder is often a complex prerequisite.
Advanced Technology for Precise Navigation
The SmartPump v2 integrates a brushless motor, an advanced feature that delivers increased reliability and extended lifespan compared to traditional brushed motors. This technology also contributes to reduced power consumption (less than 1 A in standby, 5-10 A in operation, 34 A peak) and quieter operation. Its compact design and improved thermal performance make it a discreet and efficient solution. The pump also eliminates the risk of rudder lock at hard-over, enhancing safety. Its components, including a fully sealed electronic control unit (ECU) in aluminum alloy, a carbon steel bracket, and an aluminum alloy manifold, are corrosion-treated (black anodizing for aluminum, nickel plating for steel) for durability in marine environments. It is designed to operate in a temperature range from -15°C to 55°C.
Performance and System Integration
With a configurable flow rate of 0 to 2.4 liters per minute, the SmartPump v2 is compatible with hydraulic steering cylinders from 4 to 24 cu in (approximately 65 to 393 cm³). It provides a hard-over to hard-over response time of 7 seconds for cylinders up to 17 cu in. The pump integrates "Intelligent Rudder Rate Technology" (IRRT), which automatically adjusts rudder speed based on boat speed, optimizing responsiveness at low speeds and stability at high speeds. Designed for seamless integration with Garmin Reactor 40 autopilots and compatible Garmin chartplotters, it allows full control from the chartplotter screen and supports advanced functions such as Auto Guidance. The Shadow Drive™ function is also compatible, enabling temporary disengagement of the autopilot with a simple helm input. The required power supply is 10-30 V DC, protected by a 40 A fuse. Its dimensions are 167.6 x 190.5 x 264.16 mm, weighing 7.5 kg. The power cable measures 2.7 m. Installation is facilitated by color-coded connectors, though a thorough understanding of marine hydraulic and electrical systems is required for proper implementation, including verification of a vented steering reservoir.
