Detailed description
Detailed description
The Garmin Airmar R109LM CHIRP through-hull sonar is a 2 kW underwater detection solution designed for deep-water fishing, whether commercial or recreational. It integrates CHIRP technology to provide higher resolution and detail than traditional sonars, enabling precise identification of fish and underwater structures.
Technologies and performance
This transducer uses CHIRP technology across two distinct frequency bands: a low frequency ranging from 38 kHz to 75 kHz and a mid frequency from 80 kHz to 130 kHz, offering a total bandwidth of 87 kHz. The nominal power of 2 kW allows for significant depths: up to 1,829 meters (6,000 feet) in low frequency and up to 914 meters (3,000 feet) in mid frequency, with maximum seabed detection down to 3,000 meters (10,000 feet). Beam angles range from 19° to 10° (port-starboard) and 10° to 5° (bow-stern) for low frequency, and from 13° to 8° for mid frequency. The transducer also provides rapid-response depth and water temperature data.
Installation and compatibility
The R109LM is a through-hull transducer, supplied with a high-performance fairing block to optimize water flow and sonar return quality. It is compatible with fiberglass, wood, or metal hulls and is recommended for vessels 12 meters (40 feet) and longer. Its design accommodates deadrise angles from 0° to 25°, with a 22° limit for the fairing block. Airmar’s Xducer ID® technology is integrated, providing compatible Garmin systems with specific transducer information. The 15-meter (49-foot) cable is supplied with stripped ends for connection to a black box sonar module or a compatible Garmin chartplotter, the transducer pin connector not included. The transducer body is made of durable urethane for enhanced marine environment resistance.
