Detailed description
Detailed description
The MAD Brain Box from MADINTEC is a high-performance navigation processor and autopilot system designed to centralize and optimize all electronic data aboard a vessel. Developed over more than ten years of experience and victories in offshore racing on IMOCA monohulls, Ocean Fifty, Ultim, Class40, and Mini 6.50 multihulls, this system uses cutting-edge artificial intelligence algorithms for unmatched precision and reliability, now accessible to cruising catamarans, IRC monohulls, and superyachts.
Data acquisition and processing
The MAD Brain Box ensures high-resolution data acquisition, including wind data (up to 50 Hz via the MADMast module), and captures boat movements with a proprietary high-precision inertial measurement unit (3 gyroscopes, 3 accelerometers). It processes this raw data in real time using artificial intelligence, enabling advanced dynamic calculations for true, apparent, effective, and ground wind, as well as performance metrics. Unlike conventional autopilots that react, the MAD Brain Box anticipates trajectories, providing superior course stability and responsiveness.
Integration and control
Equipped with extensive connectivity including an Ethernet port and two CAN 2.0 buses compatible with NMEA2000 and MADINTEC proprietary protocols, the MAD Brain Box natively integrates with sensors and displays from leading brands such as B&G, Garmin, and Raymarine. It acts as the central brain, leveraging data from all NMEA2000 sensors and MADINTEC modules. When paired with the MADController, it offers ultra-precise actuator control (100 Hz, to the tenth of a degree), compatible with electric or hydraulic actuators, and contributes to a 40% reduction in actuator energy consumption.
Piloting modes and safety
The system offers various piloting modes such as course-keeping, true wind angle (TWA), and polar mode. "ELITE" upgrades unlock "SUPER-PILOT" modes like "HEEL" (for heel control upwind and downwind), "SPEED", and "APPARENT WIND TRACK", which autonomously adjust the trajectory for optimal performance. For safety, heel monitoring modes are integrated, with an optional "Multihulls Heel Security Pack" that sets maximum limits and initiates corrective actions. The MAD Brain Box is designed to maintain exceptional stability even in challenging sea conditions, avoiding unintended disengagements.
Its modular architecture, composed of seven proprietary high-quality modules interconnected via the MADINTEC CAN bus, ensures system upgrade flexibility. Manufactured in France, it features robust design suited for marine environments and an intuitive user interface via MADRemote (wired or wireless), MADControl Center (web configuration), and the MADLight app for simplified control from navigation displays or mobile devices.
