Detailed description
Detailed description
The Mastervolt AGM 12/55Ah battery (reference 62000550) is a maintenance-free 12V energy storage solution designed for marine and mobile applications requiring both high cranking power and moderate cycling capacity. Thanks to its AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) technology, the electrolyte is absorbed into glass fibers, eliminating gassing under normal conditions and allowing flexible installation.
Technical performance and robustness
This battery delivers a nominal voltage of 12V and a capacity of 55Ah (C20). It stands out with excellent cranking capability, providing a current of 250A per DIN standard and 400A per SAE standard. Its low internal resistance, enabled by the glass-fiber technology, ensures rapid discharge at high currents, making it ideal for engine starting. Thicker plates contribute to extended service life. The compact dimensions of 257 x 132 x 200 mm (LxWxH) and a weight of 17 kg facilitate installation. M6/type A terminals are removable for compatibility with all standard battery terminals.
Optimized installation, charging, and maintenance
The Mastervolt AGM 12/55Ah battery is ready for use. It can be installed in any position (vertical position recommended) and does not require specific ventilation under normal use, though adequate ventilation is required in case of overcharging. A distance of more than 1 cm between batteries and keeping them away from heat sources are recommended. The operating temperature range is –20 to 55°C, with a nominal temperature of 5 to 35°C (25°C recommended for optimal service life).
For charging, use chargers with an IUoUo characteristic, with a floating voltage of 13.80V and an absorption voltage of 14.25V (at 25°C, max. 5 hours). A temperature compensation of –30mV/°C is recommended. The maximum charging current is 15.3A, corresponding to 30% of the nominal C10 capacity. It is crucial to recharge the battery to 100% at least once per month to avoid damage from incomplete charging.
Regarding discharge, deep discharges beyond 50% of the nominal capacity should be avoided to preserve service life. The battery must be recharged immediately after each discharge and never discharged below its final discharge voltage. This battery is maintenance-free, requiring no addition of acid or distilled water, and comes with a two-year warranty.
Product positioning: versatility and reliability
The Mastervolt AGM 12/55Ah battery positions itself as a superior alternative to traditional flooded lead-acid batteries, particularly for marine applications. It combines the advantages of a powerful starting battery with moderate cycling capability, distinguishing it from batteries purely dedicated to starting. For reference, an AGM 12/90Ah battery from the Mastervolt range can equal a flooded lead-acid battery of 180Ah in terms of cranking power; the 12/55Ah offers remarkable performance in its category. Its robust design and low self-discharge make it reliable for systems requiring constant and secure power supply without the maintenance constraints of older technologies.
