Detailed description
Detailed description
The 6V 260Ah MASTERVOLT AGM battery is a proven energy storage solution for marine and onboard applications. Designed with AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) technology, it offers a sealed, maintenance-free alternative to traditional lead-acid batteries while remaining a cost-effective and reliable option compared to newer lithium-ion (LiFePO4) technologies. With a nominal voltage of 6V and a capacity of 260Ah, this battery is ideal for series configurations to achieve 12V or 24V systems, providing flexibility for various electrical architectures.
Performance and technical specifications
MASTERVOLT AGM batteries are supplied ready for use and require no maintenance, such as adding acid or distilled water, thanks to their sealed valves that must never be opened. Their robust design allows for vertical installation and requires a minimum spacing of >1 cm between units for optimal heat dissipation. The operating temperature range is –20 to 55°C, with a recommended nominal temperature of 25°C to maximize service life. A tightening torque of 16.0 to 20.5 Nm is recommended for screw connections, ensuring reliable and secure electrical conductivity.
Charging and discharging recommendations
For optimal longevity, the 6V 260Ah MASTERVOLT AGM battery must be charged exclusively with chargers featuring an IUoUo characteristic. Recommended voltage settings are 6.90V for float charging and 7.13V for absorption charging (max 5 hours), both at 25°C. A temperature compensation of –15mV/°C is highly recommended. The maximum charging current must not exceed 30% of the nominal capacity C10. It is essential to recharge the battery to 100% at least once a month and avoid deep discharges beyond 50% of the nominal capacity, as this can significantly reduce service life. After each discharge, immediate recharging is recommended, without ever dropping below the final discharge voltage.
Safety and durability
Safety is a priority with this battery. Although the electrolyte is highly corrosive, contact is impossible under normal operating conditions due to its sealed housing. In the event of overcharging, an explosive hydrogen gas mixture may be emitted, requiring adequate ventilation if the batteries are installed in a confined space. MASTERVOLT AGM 6V 260Ah batteries are heavy (35.5 kg), which necessitates the use of appropriate handling equipment and secure mounting. It is essential to avoid short-circuiting the terminals and to use insulated tools. The internal composition consists mainly of solid lead (50-70%) and sulfuric acid (5-15%). At end of life, these batteries must be collected and recycled separately due to their potential impact on health and the environment.
