Detailed description
Detailed description
The Mastervolt Alpha 24V 150A EVO alternator, paired with the Alpha Pro III charge regulator, is a high-efficiency marine power generation solution designed to replace the use of a diesel generator. Unlike first-fit models that require high engine RPM, this unit is specifically calibrated to deliver maximum charging current at low RPM and idle. This system ensures rapid and complete charging of service and starting battery banks.
Electrical performance and intelligent regulation
This model delivers a total current of 150 A at a system voltage of 24 VDC. Control is provided by the Alpha Pro III regulator (firmware version 4.0 or higher), which enforces a 3+ stage intelligent charging cycle. Setpoint voltages are fixed at 28.5 V for absorption and 26.5 V for float (measured at 25°C). The system includes a temperature probe for thermal compensation of the charge, thus optimizing the lifespan of lead-acid and lithium-ion battery banks. It also integrates the "Keep Alive" function and natively communicates via the MasterBus protocol, enabling configuration, real-time monitoring, alarm management, and event history, particularly when paired with a MasterShunt. The connection between the alternator and the regulator is via a 1.5-meter hydrocarbon-resistant marine-grade cable supplied as standard.
Mechanical specifications and thermal tolerance
The alternator weighs 13.1 kg and operates with electrical isolation from ground. It features bidirectional rotation, adapting to various engine configurations. To efficiently transmit power without premature wear, it is equipped with a double pulley (2xA belt section) with a nominal diameter of 89 mm. Thermal management is ensured by a forced-cooling system via an integrated pulley fan, maintaining output power even in engine compartments where ambient temperature exceeds 40°C. Mounting options are flexible thanks to multiple mounting points (positions five to six, six o’clock, and five after six), facilitating installation on custom mounts.
Positioning and technical comparison
Within the Mastervolt range, the Alpha 24/150 EVO stands as the "heavy-duty" solution compared to lower-capacity models like the 24/75, doubling the charging capacity for vessels with high energy demands (air conditioning, watermakers). Compared to standard OEM alternators, the Alpha EVO eliminates the issue of voltage collapse at high temperatures. When compared to direct competitors such as the Balmar XT or AT series, Mastervolt’s positioning stands out due to native and seamless integration with the MasterBus ecosystem without requiring additional gateways, as well as the systematic inclusion of the external Alpha Pro III regulator. Paired with a Battery Mate distributor, this alternator can simultaneously charge up to three separate battery banks with near-zero voltage drop.
