Mastervolt Mass 24/100 DNV GL Battery Charger
The Mass 24/100 (DNV GL) charger from Mastervolt (reference 40021006) is a 24 V power and charging unit designed for continuous operation in professional marine environments. Certified DNV GL, GMDSS (SOLAS), Lloyds, RRR, and RMRS, this model meets the safety standards for commercial vessels and offshore applications. It has an MTBF (mean time between failures) rated between 180,000 and 280,000 hours at full capacity. Its stainless steel and anodized aluminum housing, rated IP23, incorporates internal components with a specific coating to resist moisture, salt, and condensation. The unit measures 420 x 318 x 130 mm and weighs 7.7 kg net (9.8 kg packed).
Electrical performance and technical data
This charger delivers an output current of 100 A (at 28.5 V) on a single output, sized for battery banks of 200 to 1000 Ah. The nominal AC input is 230 V (range 180 to 265 V) at 50/60 Hz. The unit maintains full power up to an ambient temperature of 40 to 45 °C. It features a power factor greater than 0.95 (cos phi) and a Current Control function that automatically reduces output power if input voltage drops. The charger applies an automatic 3-step+ IUoUo charge curve, compatible with open-lead, Gel, AGM, Lithium-Ion (MLi), and NiCad batteries. The system includes a temperature probe for charge compensation and manages voltage drop compensation in cables. It also operates as a stabilized DC power supply without residual ripple when no battery is connected. Parameters can be adjusted via internal jumpers or via the MasterBus communication network.
Positioning in the Mastervolt range and on the market
Within the Mastervolt catalog, the Mass series stands out from the ChargeMaster range. While ChargeMaster targets standard recreational boating, the Mass 24/100 is designed for the "Heavy Duty" segment and industrial constraints. The DNV GL certification of this specific version sets it apart from standard Mass models and positions it against competitors like Victron Energy's Skylla range, validating its installation in critical safety zones. The unit supports parallel switching with other chargers to multiply output power, and its immunity to electromagnetic interference (compliant with IEC60945) ensures the reliable operation of sensitive navigation equipment connected to the onboard network.
