Detailed description
Detailed description
The MASTERVOLT Mass GI 3.5 kW isolation transformer is an advanced solution for electrical protection and prevention of galvanic corrosion in marine installations. Unlike older low-frequency isolation transformers, the Mass GI 3.5 kW uses high-frequency switching mode technology, making it 75% lighter and 60% more compact. This modern design simplifies onboard integration, allowing installation in any position on a bulkhead or floor without requiring rubber mounts thanks to its silent and vibration-free operation.
Performance and Key Features
This isolation transformer delivers 3.5 kW (16 A) at 230 V (or 1.92 kW at 120 V), with an input/output voltage range of 90 to 255 V and a frequency of 45 to 65 Hz. Its high efficiency, exceeding 93%, minimizes energy loss and heat generation. An integrated Soft Start function eliminates high inrush currents when connecting to the shore power grid, protecting the dockside installation. For higher power needs, up to four Mass GI units can be connected in parallel to achieve a total capacity of 14 kW, offering notable installation flexibility compared to single-block solutions.
Integration and Safety
The Mass GI 3.5 kW is designed for complete system integration thanks to its MasterBus compatibility. This enables remote control, alarm monitoring, and easy configuration, particularly for parallel operation. In terms of safety, the device is equipped with protections against overloads (including a 16 A electronic fuse and a 20 AT resettable fuse accessible for the 3.5 kW model), current spikes, short circuits, and high temperatures. Its robust aluminum housing ensures increased durability, and its IP23 protection rating (when mounted vertically) makes it suitable for marine environments. Installation requires proper grounding of the boat and integration of a residual current device (RCD) for optimal safety, in compliance with local regulations. LED indicators on the front panel provide clear status information on operation and any failures.
