Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for high-precision and performance sailing, the Compas 9X NKE (reference 90-60-534) is a miniature 9-axis sensor that provides real-time 3D spatial orientation. It integrates data from accelerometers (±16G), gyroscopes (±2000°/s) and magnetometers (±0.8Gauss) to deliver heading, heel and pitch information with an angular resolution of 0.01°. This system advantageously replaces the previous Regatta compass, offering a more efficient and simpler installation solution.
Integration and Advanced Performance
The Compas 9X connects directly to the NKE Topline bus, automatically creating six dedicated channels. It is also NMEA0183 compatible (version 4.1) with a default RS232 output at 38400 bauds, transmitting HDG and XDR frames. This integration enables an emission frequency of 25 Hz for attitude and 10 Hz for magnetic heading. Powered between 9 and 30VDC, its power consumption is below 500mW, making it energy-efficient. Its dynamic accuracy reaches 2° for magnetic heading and 1° for heel and pitch. These features position it as a technical alternative to traditional inertial measurement units (IMU), particularly for racing sailboats.
Key Features for Navigation
Thanks to integration with the Topline bus, the Compas 9X improves the accuracy of true wind data by correcting measurements to account for the boat’s heel, which can distort anemometer readings. In autopilot mode, it uses acceleration data to refine the autopilot heading. Paired with an NKE Gyropilot, it optimizes the performance and precision of the helm. The sensor features self-compensation and allows integration of a correction table to adjust magnetic heading. Its IP67 waterproof housing and compact dimensions (H68 mm x Ø78 mm, 200 g) facilitate installation on vertical bulkheads, away from magnetic interference sources.
