Detailed description
The Ocean Signal ALARM-BOX is a maritime safety solution designed for the immediate detection and signaling of emergency situations. This unit triggers an audible alarm upon receiving an AIS MOB (Man Overboard) or AIS SART (Search and Rescue Transponder) signal, alerting the crew on board to a potential person overboard or a need for rescue.
Integration and Key Features
The ALARM-BOX integrates with existing networks via NMEA 0183-2 connectivity (38400 baud) with an NMEA0183 port, accepting AIS NMEA-HS Input messages (!VDM) and providing an NMEA-HA Output. It is powered by a 10.8 to 15.6 Volt DC supply and emits an 87dB audible alarm at 1 meter. The device allows programming of up to 30 individual MMSI numbers to trigger specific visual and audible alarms, with distinct tones to identify the source of the AIS signal (MOB or SART). Alarms can be configured to respond to all received targets or only pre-programmed targets.
Design and Robustness
With dimensions of 90mm x 72mm x 72mm, the ALARM-BOX features a compact format for easy integration aboard. Its waterproof design, tested to 1 meter depth, allows for external mounting. It operates within an operational temperature range of -15°C to +55°C. The alarm box also includes two 8 Ampere, 250V AC alarm contacts via an integrated relay option. This provides the ability to connect an external alarm system or engine kill switch, programmable for activation as needed. Configuration software is provided with power and USB cables for programming via a Windows PC or certain Android devices.
